Attributed to Jean Beaurdeley, Paris, France
    Early Nineteenth Century
    Jasper and gilt bronze
Marks: JB stamped on gilt bronze mounts
    19 in. high x 15 in. wide

Each urn shaped vase with scrolled foot and lip mounts joined by scrolled flowering acanthus handles; with a domed lid surmounted by an asymmetrical flowering acanthus finial.

Jean Beurdeley was the founder of a flourishing dynasty of three generations of fine quality cabinetmakers, working to an exceptional standard. Established in Paris in 1804 at 355 rue Saint-Honore, the workshop continued to grow until finally taking over the Hanover Pavilion on the corner of rue Louis-Legrand and the Boulevard des Italiens in 1839. The firm was particularly well known for furniture with superb gilt bronze mounts, most commonly copying important eighteenth century examples. In addition to furniture, Beurdeley also created numerous smaller items, often in marble and stone, adorned with gilt bronze mounts with mercury gilding and fine hand chasing.
