Marks: Leather binding and cover - illustrated, in Russian (Cyrillic)
    17-1/2 x 13 inches (44.5 x 33.0 cm); 415 pages

Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia, succeeded his father, Tsar Alexander III, upon his death on November 1, 1894. After a period of mourning and preparation that lasted almost a year and a half, Nicholas was crowned Tsar of Russia on May 26, 1896. His wife Alexandra Feodorovna was dressed in a resplendent gown that cost almost 5,000 rubles, the entire city of Moscow turning out for the event.

The Coronation Committee in charge of the weeks-long celebration that led up to the event commissioned all manner of commemorative items. The noted artist Alexander Benois completed watercolors for menus, and all sorts of repairs and refurbishments were made to beautify the city. Three years after the event, a grand commemoration of the coronation was completed in the form of these remarkable coronation books. Crafted of fine tooled leather with color engravings on the covers and binding, the volume gives the reader a history of not only the events of the coronation of Nicholas II and Alexandra, but a history of all the past Russian rulers. Through detailed engravings, some in color, the story of the Russian Imperial family is told in Cyrillic.

This is truly a rare item and is a deluxe edition that would have been owned by only the elite of Russia.
