Description

    A Group of Seven Sterling, Silver-Plated, and Brass Wind Instruments, 19th century and later
    Marks: (various)
    5-3/4 h x 17 w x 4-1/2 d inches (14.6 x 43.2 x 11.4 cm) (largest, trumpet)
    18.96 troy ounces (weighable)

    Property from the Estate of Charles Schalebaum
    The lot comprising:
    Sterling silver bugle with hallmarks for London, 1901;
    Silver-plated trumpet with Elkhart, Indiana engraving;
    Small brass trumpet;
    Three testaphone wind instruments;
    English rosewood and nickel fife marked IMPROVED, LONDON, with accompanying tag denoted the piece as a relic of the War of 1812.

    Note: The claim that the fife was a relic of the War of 1812 is highly dubious, as the first "Improved" fife models were introduced after the 1820s. The present fife probably dates between 1830-1860.

    Condition Report*:

    Errant and varying degrees of denting throughout examples, errant scratching, sterling bugle missing mouthpiece, with wear commensurate with age and use. Heritage does not guarantee the working order or completeness of instruments.
