The obverse featuring a man pulling a female from the water with ship and lifeboat to background, legend with motto overhead LORD SAVE US: WE PERISH, reverse with "liver" bird encapsulated by oak wreath, legend with LIVERPOOL SHIPWRECK AND HUMANE SOCIETY, 14K gold bezel engraved to rim H.B. Loudon, Officer, RMSS China, for the noble courageous and skillful management displayed in rescuing Crew of Barque Achilles in one of the boast manned by 6 Volunteers from Steamer. March 1867.
The present example is the first version of the Society's medal (Type 1) and is the 1st Class designation identified by its frosted and glazed composition.
PLEASE NOTE THE MEDAL HAS NOT BEEN REMOVED FROM THE 14K BEZEL AND TESTED FOR GOLD CONTENT.
