    Description

The Collection of Paul Gregory and Janet Gaynor

A GROUP OF TWO RECONSTITUTED STONE GARDEN FIGURES OF MONKEYS
    European, probably 19th century
Each 25 inches high (63.5 cm)

The figures of reconstituted stone feature monkey figures, the first with a violin and the second with a cornucopia of fruit.

    PROVENANCE:
    Collection of Adrian.

Previously featured pool side in the Beverly Hills' home of Adrian and Janet. Interestingly, the monkeys bear a striking resemblance to the famous "flying monkeys" in The Wizard of Oz, a film for which Adrian designed the remarkable costumes and sets. Paul Gregory has enjoyed these well-modeled stone monkeys for many years in his desert home, where they flanked the fireplace in his painting gallery. Over the years Paul has entertained many visitors to his home who took particular interest in the sculptures owing to their quality, their obvious age, and their distinct appearance of having been submerged in water for a long period of time.
