In this lithograph by Dallas Nine Artist and former Director of the Dallas Museum of Fine Art, Jerry Bywaters represents a subject intimately tied to Mexican art and the preservation of indigenous culture in the wake of the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920). Bywaters depicts a stylized vendor completely encumbered by the over life-size bouquet of Mexican lilies for sale. The vendor leans forward in front of a monumental agave plant with cut leaves. The agave plant, lilies, and sombrero serve as iconic symbols of Mexican art and culture.
