Description

Fossil Fish Pair
Mioplosus & Knightia
Eocene
Green River Formation
Wyoming, USA
7.91 x 5.31 x 0.75 inches (20.10 x 13.50 x 1.90 cm)

Two beautifully preserved fossil fish share this striking Green River Formation slab, identified as Mioplosus and Knightia, representing two freshwater species that inhabited Eocene lacustrine systems approximately 50 million years ago. Fine skeletal detail remains visible throughout both specimens, including delicate fin rays, vertebral structure, and cranial features, all sharply contrasted against the pale limestone matrix. The dynamic overlapping composition creates a strong sense of movement and interaction, giving the slab exceptional visual appeal beyond its scientific significance. Fossils from the Green River Formation are celebrated worldwide for their remarkable preservation, offering unique glimpses into ancient freshwater ecosystems with extraordinary clarity. Both aesthetically compelling and rich in paleontological interest, this fossil pairing represents a classic example from one of North America's most famous fossil deposits.

Estimate: $400 - up.
