    A Simon Lachez Walnut Veneered and Noble Wood and Mother-of-Pearl Marquetry-Inlaid Oak Tall Case Clock, Utrecht, Holland, circa 1720

    96 x 17-1/8 x 8-7/8 inches (243.8 x 43.5 x 22.5 cm)

    The tall case clock boasting a shaped bonnet with arched pediment over pierced frieze and dial with lunette featuring maker's signature on silvered disc within gilt metal crowned cartouche held aloft by winged putti over silvered chapter ring with black enameled Roman numerals for hours and Arabic numerals for minutes, acid etched and engraved gilt metal center with subsidiary dial for seconds and date aperture, surrounded by applied gilt metal foliate spandrels, all flanked by barley twist columns, the bonnet, trunk, and base all constructed of oak, veneered in walnut and profusely inlaid with a variety of noble woods and mother-of-pearl, including geometric and foliate trim, vases of flowers, and portraits, with an eight day movement with five pillars, anchor escapement, striking completely on the hour and once on the half hour.


    Condition Report*: Overall good condition with some losses to pierced frieze with later reinforcement, scattered chips and repairs to veneer, scattered hairline cracks to veneer, and a few scattered surface scratches and abrasions, with wear commensurate with age and use.
