    A French Gilt Bronze Figural Bastille Clock: The Execution of Marie Antoinette, Paris, France, 19th century

    The clock depicting a sorrowful Marie Antoinette consoled by male companion in the moments leading up to her execution, clock depicted in architectural prison environment with barred windows and doors, four armed soldiers standing by and one soldier readying to open prison door, clock faced surmounted and flanked by revolutionary motifs including furled flags and plumed helmet atop toppled fasces, flags, quiver, and rams head.

    This clock was a 21st birthday present to Shirley from David Butler, the director of Temple's 1934 film Bright Eyes.

    Condition Report*: Scattered verdigris formation and rubbing to gilding, clock face with minor chipping near barrel holes, rifle barrel to one soldier figure missing, minor stable hairline near 15 minute mark, clock cover missing glass face, otherwise presenting well; lot includes key. Note: Mechansism is not fitted with pendulum and appears to be entirely spring-driven. Heritage does not gurantee the working order or completeness of clock mechanisms.
