    A Fine French Empire Gilt Bronze Classical Mantel Clock Depicting Plato and Euripides, probably Paris, circa 1820
    23-3/4 x 18-3/4 x 7-1/2 inches (60.3 x 47.6 x 19.1 cm)

    PROPERTY FROM A DISTINGUISHED DALLAS ESTATE
    The clock having standing Plato before classical barrel chair clutching scroll in right hand, joined to the left by plinth surmounted by classical Euripides bust, below to clock face encircled by serpent border, below to rectangular plinth ornamented with egg-and-dart and foliate borders, inset frieze with Medusa starburst flanked by kneeling male angels in high relief, all raised on four winged lion's feet. Clock movement with double-barrel silk string mechanism.


    Condition Report*: Some rubbing to gilding most noticeably to sides of case and reverse, otherwise good with wear commensurate with age and use; lot includes original pendulum. Heritage does not guarantee the working order or completeness of clock mechanisms.
