PROVENANCE:
Sotheby's New York, Faberge, Russian Works of Art, Objects of Vertu & Silver, June 12, 1986, lot 275;
Private Collection, US, acquired from the above;
M.S. Rau, New Orleans, acquired from the above;
Private Collection, US, acquired from the above.

The form and strut of this desk clock model is well known through variations produced by workmaster Michael Perchin before his death in 1903. Another example of the form with multi-color gold swags by Perkhin is illustrated Tillander-Godenhielm, Twilight, p. 171. Several examples by Wigstrom exist, including one in red with an identical Guilloché pattern and a pearl bezel (sold Christie's London, Russian Art, 1-2 December 2009, Lot 40). This beautiful example in "Rose Pompadour" pink bears the inventory number 10324, which places it firmly in the year 1904, indicating that this clock counts among the earliest works of Wigstrom, after he assumed leadership of the Perchin workrooms after the master's death in 1903.

Recent research indicated that this clock was part of a series of at least 14 clocks.

Heritage is grateful to Valentin Skurlov and to Anna and Vincent Palmade for their assistance with the research of this lot.

Estimate: $70,000 - $90,000.
