    Caroline Abbott Derby (1873-circa 1940);
    Private collection, Westport, Connecticut.

    This lot includes a note by composer William Mason (1829-1908); a letter from American artist John Appleton Brown (1844-1902); a hand-written letter from the Lord Bishop of Frederickton, Nova Scotia, to Ms. Derby; a hand-written letter from Childe Hassam to Ms. Derby; a letter and a sketch by Edward Askew Sothern (1826-1881); a 6 x 4 inch watercolor, East Gloucester, 1899, by Walter Lofthouse Dean (1854-1912); a hand-written poem by Celia Thaxter (1835-1894); a hand-written note by James Thomas Fields (1817-1881); a hand-written letter by Wilkie Collins (1824-1899); a hand-written note by Edward H. Sothern; hand-written notes and watercolors by E.A. Sothern; hand-written notes dated 1893 and 1901 by Helen Keller (1880-1969); a hand-written letter by Horace Scudder (1838-1902); and a hand-written note by Helena Chlapowska Modjeska.

    This work will be included in Stuart Feld's and Kathleen M. Burnside's forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist's work.



    Condition Report*: The watercolor has been mounted to archival board, the colors are vibrant, and otherwise in overall good condition.
