    Two Articulated Figures (A,B)
    A.D. 300 - 600
Ceramic (A,B), traces of original paint (B)
    (A) Height 4 5/8 in.
    (B) Height 6 1/2 in.

Both articulated figures are comprised of five parts, which were intended to be joined by tying: a head and torso unit and separate arms and legs. The smaller figure has a cleft head, ear spools and a necklace, with bracelets on both arms. The larger figure has a three-part headdress, more elaborate ear spools with four-petaled flower centers, and a necklace. The torso of the larger figure is developed anatomically to indicate the rib cage. All components of both figures are in good condition, with the larger having residues of red and yellow paint, a small chip at the proper left shoulder, and a missing proper left thumb. Mist spraying of both figures resulted in uniform drying speed of all parts, suggesting that in both cases the parts belong together.
An articulated figure of which the head-torso unit appears to be from the same mold as the larger figure here is illustrated in Kathleen Berrin and Esther Pasztory, eds. Teotihuacan Art from the City of the Gods. London: Thames and Hudson, 1993, p.234, no.104, right figure.

    Skinner, Boston: sale 2209, 20 September 2003: lot 23 (ill. p.12)
