A French Sèvres-style Porcelain and Gilt Bronze CenterpieceUnknown maker, painted by Beitien, France
Late Nineteenth Century
Porcelain with polychrome enamel and gilt decoration; gilt bronze
Marks: signed Beitien; pseudo interlace L's of M; Louis Philippe Sevres 1845 mark; Chateau des Tuilleries mark
21 inches high x 21.5 inches wide x 11.5 inches deep
Of ovoid form with dark blue ground, the front with polychrome enamel painting of a man and woman seated in a landscape at a backgammon table conversing with another man; within elaborate gilt scroll surround; the reverse with landscape decoration within gilt reed border, with gilt bronze winged herm form handles and reticulated scroll upper border on gadrooned collar, conforming socle; squared gilt bronze base with laurel wreath band, beaded border; guilloche banding, shaped feet and pendant drops.
