Description

Nephrite Crane Carving Pair
Artist: Unknown

An impressive pair of crane sculptures, finely carved from deep green Nephrite, each bird rendered with elegant proportions and lifelike poise. The pair is displayed upon a natural wood base, evoking a sense of harmony between the birds and their environment. The surface polish highlights the fine mottling and translucency of the stone, lending depth and vitality to the figures. The massive sculptures measure 48 x 28 x 24 inches (121 x 71 x 61 cm). One crane shows a partial toe, and another has a toe that has been professionally repaired; both issues are minor and do not detract from the overall presentation. A striking and substantial lapidary composition, symbolizing longevity and fidelity in traditional Chinese art, and an impressive display of craftsmanship on a monumental scale.
Overall Measurements: 48.00 x 28.00 x 24.00 inches (121.92 x 71.12 x 60.96 cm)

Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern California Collector
