PROVENANCE:
The collection of Prince Michel Cantacuzène, Count Spéransky (1913-2000)
Prince Michel Cantacuzene, Count Speransky was born in what is now Ukraine near Poltava on a family estate called Bouromka. The son of Prince Serge Cantacuzene and his wife Marie (nee Okolyszani) his family fled the Russian revolution and he was raised in Paris and London. Married first to Barbara Hanbury-Williams, he later moved to South Africa and married Pamela Grace Jeppe.
Carved in high relief of Guanyin and her two attendants in a rocky mountain landscape, with bamboo and lotus bud, the stone displaying beautiful red, green, and light lavender colors of the jadeite.
Condition Report*:
Overall presenting beautifully, some minor chips along the edges and corners, consistent with age and handling, some horizontal linear stone inclusions and cracks towards the lower part of the boulder. Otherwise, no other visible condition issues to report.
