    Bird-form Pendant
    Diquís Delta
    A.D. 700 - 1500
    Gold, Weight 133.66 grams
    Height 3 ½ in. Width 3 ¾ in.

    The special feature of this pendant is the substitution of a well-developed, eared feline head where body and talons would commonly be shown. The unusually rounded wings have raised bosses on their lower edges. Profile outward-facing crocodile heads flank the head, and the ear area is developed into simplified profile bird heads. The body contains a rattle chamber with pellet. The upper edges of the wings are ragged, and a small casting lapse hole is in the bottom center of the tail. A few stains are visible in body and head area, more so on the back.

    The lot is sold with a statement of authenticity from the distinguished expert Robert Sonin.
