    LITERATURE:
    Possibly J.J. de Gelder, Bartholomeus van der Helst; een studie van zijn werk, zijn levensgeschiedenis, een beschrijvende catalogus van zijn oeuvre, Rotterdam, 1921, cat. no. 335 (not illus.), p. 191 (Portrait of a Man, canvas 76.5 x 63 cm., Bleuland sale, Utrecht, May 6, 1839, no. 148);
    Edwin A. Ulrich Museum of Art: Catalogue of the Collection,
    Wichita (acc. no. 76.36.1), 1980, p. 65.

    During the 1970s, the well-known Hungarian-American composer Miklos Rozsa donated this fully signed and dated portrait by Bartholomeus van der Helst, together with other important Old Master paintings, to the Edwin A. Ulrich Museum in Wichita for its growing collection. Former Ulrich Museum director Dr. Martin Bush notes that Rozsa had assembled an impressive collection of Old Masters during his successful career in Hollywood, which included sixteen Academy Award nominations and three Oscars for Spellbound (1945), A Double Life (1947), and Ben-Hur (1959). Many thanks to Dr. Bush for his kind assistance in cataloguing this work.
