    Attributed to GODFRIED MAES (Flemish, 1649-1700)
    The Holy Family
    Pen and brown wash on paper partially laid on a second sheet
    7-1/2 x 5-3/4 inches (19.1 x 14.6 cm)
    Inscribed by a later hand on verso of primary sheet: Godfroy Maes, born at Antwerp in 1660, was a Scholar of / his Father, was so early in Life as 1682 chosen Director / of the Academy in that City; the time of his Death is / not mentioned.


    Condition Report*: Good condition.  Ink from inscription verso faintly bleeding through image in lower left quadrant. Slight scattered staining and small hole in Joseph's sleeve.  Faint horizontal crease through center.  Tipped to archival backing and matted in French window mat.
