DescriptionBlack Stone Mask
Ça 200 BC-200 AD
Polished and carved black stone
With a few carved lines, the sculptor has managed to create a powerful glowering face. The mask is perforated at the top and was probably worn as a pendant. Some scholars place the age of Mezcala objects to a much earlier date. This is a handsome, dense stone perfectly suited to the face portrayed upon it.
