DescriptionA Pair of Cast Gold Earrings
Ça 500-1000 AD
Lost wax cast gold
2" High x 3½" Wide
Each one of these earrings is adorned with a tiny zoomorph on the upper right corner. The delicate openwork creates an interesting interaction between size and lightness. The technique is known as "false filigree" because, though the texture gives the impression of woven gold wires, the technique used was lost wax casting. Narrow tripartite woven bands separate the bands of filigree. A single ring at the top allows the earrings to be attached to the wearer's ears. 41.2 grams.
