Two Mezcala Idols, a Massive Flare, Thick Bead, and Mid-Eastern Jar

    Mezcala, Michoacan, Guerrero
    C. 400 BC-200 AD
    1½" Thick to 6¼" Tall

The group consists of five objects. The smallest piece, still large, is a hard stone speckled green bead or plug in a bell form from Guerrero, excellent condition. A massive disc shaped flare in a beautiful speckled green hard stone that holds a strong ancient polish and with a very shallow flare. This retains ancient encrustations and a vintage label marked 'Michoacan'. The smaller idol is Mezcala, carved from a celt form with a high curving, undecorated backside, the face with human characteristics; intact and excellent. The larger idol is Guerrero depicting a human figure, the legs twisting to his left. The carving is in a colorful speckled green hard stone retaining strong polish; broken in half and a piece reattached at rear of head. The four Pre-Columbian pieces are accompanied by a brownstone vessel of unknown origin, probably mid-Eastern antiquity.
