Three Mold-Made Maya Votive Figures

    Maya, Northern Regions
    C. 600-900 AD
    Painted Terra Cotta
    5" to 8" Tall

The smaller, a nicely detailed smiling dignitary with a large applied headdress, his eyes arching while the mouth is upturned and with wrinkling to the face in an animated pleased appearance. He wears a large beaded necklace, the hands holding to two suspending strands. This figure, with an integral whistle and only missing one part of the headdress from ancient times. Next, a buff terra cotta female wearing a tall panel over the head, a large beaded necklace, and with scarification on the face; she, with ancient losses to the feet and headdress, some surface pitting, and contains rattle beads inside. Third, a tall standing chief with large temple headdress, beaded necklace, beaded bracelets, and holding a bag by the strings. This figurine is cleanly broken at the forehead and retains original painting in red, white, and traces of rare Maya blue. Only lightly cleaned, retaining ancient deposits and minerals.
