    THREE HOPI POLYCHROME POTTERY ITEMS
    c. 1920 - 1940

    including a jar, painted in deep red and black over a buff slip, with a frieze of geometric motifs encircling the body, stippled details; a cylindrical vessel, painted in black against a buff slip, with finely painted avian and geometric motifs encircling beneath the rim; and a vase-like object, open on each end, painted in deep red and black over a buff slip, decorated with a series of three birds and geometric motifs, with ink inscription on the base: (illegible) Trading Post, Peach Springs, Ariz., Feb. 22, 1930

    Dimensions: the jar, 8 ½ inches in diameter; the cylindrical vessel, 5 ¼ inches in height; and the vase-like object, 5 ¾ inches in height


    Condition Report*:

    The jar, in overall good to fair condition. No major breaks, cracks or chips. Surface with wear, including dings and scratches affecting the painted design. Dirt on the interior. Scratches on the base. No apparent restoration. The cylindrical vessel, in overall very good condition. No major breaks, cracks or chips. Surface with usual wear, including one superficial gash, approx. ½" in length, and moderate amount of soiling/discoloration. Shellac (?) on the exterior. No apparent restoration. The vase-like object, in overall good condition. No major breaks, cracks or chips. Surface with moderate wear, including crazing and abrasions affecting the painted design. No apparent restoration.
