Description

Tall Early Maya Plate with Incised Animal

Pre-Classic Maya
C. 200 BC-200 AD
Slipped Pottery
5¾" Tall x 11¼" Wide

The offering plate is supported on four thick, hollow legs and overall with a shiny orange slip. The rim and the legs are decorated in red paint, and the interior is simply decorated with the profile of an incised four legged animal having a perked tail, pointed ears, downturned mouth, and a stripe running down the torso to the feet. The image could be a deer. The vessel is solid condition with surface pitting, else quite nice. An early example. This lot requires third party shipping.
