DescriptionSinu Small Two Part Urn
C. 800-1500 AD
Buff Terra Cotta
11½" Tall x 6½" Wide
The lidded cache vessel formed with a cylinder shaped base with two three small nodes at the rim, possibly indicating male genitalia, the lid having a wide semi-circular face with strong jaw, slanted coffee bean eyes and mouth, the angled ears with holes, and the dome showing arms, breasts, belly button, and a notched ridge for the backbone. The cache vessels were used to contain food offerings for the afterlife, and, depending on size, sometimes complete burial urns. The vessel lid is well reconstructed from pieces and the base is intact.
