DescriptionSimple Decorated Fine Orange Maya Bowl
C. 600-900 AD
2¾" Tall x 9½" Wide
The elegant offering bowl is slipped with a light orange ground and simply decorated to create a pleasing and elegant work. The exterior is split into two horizontal halves, the lower vertically divided into two and each containing a single red square. The interior is painted in red at the rim, two brown stripes below, and the interior with a compound glyph. A nicely crafted vessel, in solid, excellent condition, with only one side having some surface erosion. As an unusual detail, the base has a large unpolished trapezoid shaped area intentionally remaining undecorated or slipped.
