DescriptionNayarit Wheeled Toy Dog Effigy
C. 200 BC-200 AD
Painted Terra Cotta
4" Tall x 5¼" Long
The figure shows a rectangular hollow bodied dog with a perked tail, flat rectangular face, and incised across the back with stair stepped designs painted in cream and red. The interesting characteristic here is that each leg is pierced and may have served as an early child's toy having been mounted with four pottery wheels. The head and one leg are reattached and ancient losses of the ears and eyes.
