DescriptionGroup of Seven Chupicuaro and Michoacan Ladies
Chupicuaro and Michoacan
C. 400 BC-200 AD
3" to 4¼" Tall
A nice group of lovely little figurines including four Chupicuaro 'Pretty Ladies', the two smaller buff examples each with a loss; a well slipped intact example with original red and white pigments; and a more broad example with large banded hair, intact. The two Michoacan figures include a standing woman with wide triangular head and arms to chest, this intact; and the taller female with large ear ornaments and strong cream slip suffers from a missing eye, losses to hair, and a foot. The most interesting example is a highly unusual Chupicuaro variant showing a woman in her late term of pregnancy, the breasts extremely full and the stomach bulging while she wears a long flat skirt with notches, possibly indicative that she is laying down covered and in labor; this figure with a rare yellow pigment, intact, and heavily encrusted; a wonderful variant.
