DescriptionGroup of 116 Mochica Gold Disc Ornaments
C. 200 BC-400 AD
Approximately. 1¾" to 1 7/8" Wide
The large collection of discs would have been ornaments for attachment to a shirt. Each piece is cut from a low karat sheet gold and embossed with round spheres, each disc having a central orb surrounded by five more, and then a series of more at the outer layer. The lot includes 116 of the early discs mounted upon a thin gauze shirt with deities, not original to the discs.
Estimate: $5,000 - $6,000.
