DescriptionFine Veracruz Torso Fragment
C. 800-1000 AD
Buff Terra Cotta with Stucco
7" Tall x 6" Wide
The man stands with arms to the sides, now missing, with a band across the head drawing the long flowing hair to the sides, and wearing a necklace with series of dangling ornaments. The refined face is painstakingly modeled creating a realistic and natural youthful face with open eyes and the mouth parted. The example is a fragment from a large jar, most likely, a full standing figure with tall headdress and mounted to an incense burner. He retains areas of original white stucco and the existing large hair panel has a reddish fire clouded coloration. The figure would have been elaborately painted in stucco with many brilliant colors of fragile pigments which rarely survives. The fragment is intact with ancient losses as seen and comes with custom mount.
