The powerful image depicts an eagle or hawk with round head, short beak, tufted brow, the wings and head with punctated ground, circles incised on the chest, the rear with incised tail feather scrolling design, and the eyes bordered with serpents, a tiny snake head resting on its beak. The burnished vessel is covered in a deep brown smoothed surface and mounted with a thick tubular stirrup spout. In excellent condition with only ancient surface scrapes, small chip to the rim, and with retouched cinnabar. A fine, early example.
