DescriptionChavin Nesting Bird Bottle
C. 1000-400 BC
Grayware Burnished Ceramic
9¾" Tall x 8½" Long
The attractive bottle is finely crafted with a peaceful image of a nesting bird. The vessel body is gently modeled with a simplistic naturalism showing the plump avian with wings covering the body, a small tail on rear, and flattened head and sides of face. The top beak turns downward while the eyes are oval which would suggest it may be an eagle rather than other species. The vessel surface holds a strong sheen to the smooth grayish surface and is in excellent, solid condition, only two small nicks to the spout, and with original red cinnabar highlights in crevices.
