DescriptionCarchi Arybolla with Animal Head
C. 1000-1400 AD
Burnished and Painted Pottery
15½" Tall x 12½" Wide
The round vessel modeled with a spiking base for ease of standing firmly into the ground, has large looping handles, a bulbous body coming to a corseted neck and flaring lip. The surface is burnished in a plum with negative resist decoration in black displaying a tree like pattern on the center terminating with an applied abstract animal head, and other columns with undulating 'S' patterns, circles, and squares with lines. The vessel would have been used for holding foods and liquids and, just under the lip are two opposing tying holes, probably for securing a cover. The vessel is well repaired from many pieces and looks intact. This lot requires third party shipping.
