DescriptionAbstract Painted Chucu Offering Tile
C. 1300-1600 AD
10" by 7¼"
The rectangular tile is intentionally ground on all sides to create squared corners and painted over with two panels in black and yellow creating an almost modernistic feel. The tiles were given as offerings within caves and in burials in the southern regions and normally crafted from the shards of massive ceramic storage vessels. The example here, possibly intentionally fired to recreate the effect of being a pot shard. Expertly repaired from two pieces.
