c. 1867 Mule Deer (Piah), Ute War Chief, by William Gunnison Chamberlain, Denver, Colorado, 1867. CDV, with Chamberlain's back-stamp at Larimar Street, in the "Graham Block," before street addresses had been assigned in the city.

Piah wears a truly-spectacular headdress of golden eagle feathers, those on the trailer interspersed with white tail feathers of the bald eagle. The absence of any white markings on the golden eagle feathers is evidence that they have all been dyed, almost certainly red. This may be discerned in the enlarged views. The cap of the headdress is made of red wool cloth with two bands of beadwork. Profuse strips of ermine fur accent the crown. Piah wears wool garments offset with beaded strips. Suspended from a beaded bandolier, a powder horn hangs at his right hip, while a Remington revolver is held in his right hand.
