Little Bear fought a brave rearguard action in the face of Colonel John Chivington's troops at Sand Creek on November 29, 1864. Little Bear's bravery enabled many Cheyenne women and children to escape the massacre. This image was taken on May 10, 1875 near Okmulgee, Indian Territory.
