c. 1913 Laban Little Wolf (O-kum-har-ket), Northern Cheyenne, in New York, February, 1913. Silver-gelatin print, framed. The title "Chief Little Wolf, Northern Cheyenne" appears as an ink inscription on the paper seal, rear.

Laban Little Wolf, a nephew of the Northern Cheyenne Head Chief Little Wolf who valiantly led his people back to their homeland in southeastern Montana after they were exiled to Indian Territory following the Battle of Little Bighorn, was one of the dignitaries attending the "Indian Monument" dedication at New York harbor in February, 1913. Immediately afterward, he traveled on to the national capitol on tribal business. Compare NAA Neg. Nos gn_00247a & gn_00247b, made in Washington, D.C., in March, 1913, where he wears the identical shirt and headdress. His shirt, which probably was a Lakota gift garment, rather than of Cheyenne origin, features the decapitated heads of Crow enemies in the beaded strips---direct evidence for the realities of tribal warfare.

Collected by the current owner's grandfather, Angus Samuel Nicholson, Gov't. Agent on the Menominee Indian Reservation from 1910 - 1916.
