Description

    A WESTERN GREAT LAKES LOOM-BEADED SASH
    c. 1890 the central panel with overall pattern of hearts, loom-woven in numerous shades of opaque and translucent glass seed beads, the end fringes of braided purple and white wool yarn, with tassels enclosing narrow panels of loom-woven beadwork

    Provenance:
    Collected by the current owner's grandfather, Angus Samuel Nicholson, Gov't. Agent on the Menominee Indian Reservation from 1910 - 1916.

    Length: 70 inches overall





    Estimate: $800 - $1,200.

    Condition Report*:

    In overall fair to good condition. Central panel with three areas of bead loss, two approx. 1" x ½", and the other, approx. 3" x ¼" along one end. Two other areas of very minor bead loss. Beawork intact on fringes. Minor fading and discoloration to wool fringes. No apparent restoration.
