    A PAIR OF MESQUAKIE BEADED HIDE FRONT SEAM LEGGINGS
    c. 1880

    composed of finely tanned and smoked deer skin, decorated with curvilinear design elements, stitched in shades of blue, pink, green, white-heart red, pumpkin, translucent and outline white beads, front tabs with hide fringe

    Provenance:
    Collected by Bird Maynard Robinson, Chief Clerk of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in the 1880s, and through the family by descent.

    Condition Report*:

    In overall very good condition.  Supple hide with some soiling and one hole, approx. 1/2" in diameter on the back of the proper right legging.  Evidence of machine stitching along the top of each.  Beadwork with minor loss and some restoration.
