    A Rare Chumash Polychrome Coiled Tray c. probably 18th century

    natural and dyed juncas, sumac

    A similar Chumash basket, probably by the same hand, is illustrated in two books by J. C. H. King: First Peoples, First Contacts: Native Peoples of North America, p. 111 and Artificial Curiosities from the Northwest Coast of America: Native American Artefacts in the British Museum collected on the Third Voyage of Captain James Cook and Acquired Through Sir Joseph Banks, pl. 130.

    Diameter: 20 ¼ inches


    Condition Report*: In overall good condition.  Loss to rim, including 15" of rods and 50% of rim stitches.  One area of restoration in the basin.
