    Description

    Gemstone: "Amber" - 5.85 Ct.
    Holocene
    Baltic Coast
    Gdansk, Poland
    14.8 x 14.8 x 11.6 mm

This "Amber" gemstone from Poland has many of the characteristics of the fossilized tree resin from the Baltic Coast often referred to as succinite. In actuality, this is considered "retinite" which refers to any of a group of resins often related to coal which resemble Amber in color but typically lack the succinic acid. While not a fossil like a true biogenic Amber, this "gemmy" example sure is amazing. At almost 6 carats, this stunning stone has been faceted into a gorgeous and elegant gem with nice clarity and consistency. The piece is quite lightweight for its size, and the key characteristic of this example is simply its beauty.
