Description

Burmite with Sandfly Inclusions
Burmite
Cretaceous
Hukawng Valley, Myitkyina District, Kachin State, Myanmar
0.56 x 0.52 x 0.19 inches (1.42 x 1.31 x 0.48 cm)

This excellent piece of Burmite contains a group of both male and female sandflies-Phlebotominae. Sand flies are a blood-feeding insect, which today are infamous for transmitting a variety of devastating human and animal diseases, including the flesh-eating parasite that causes leishmaniasis. Female sand flies almost certainly fed on the blood of Dinosaurs, so it is possible that this piece could contain remnant Dinosaur blood, or even "Dino DNA." This is one uncommon offering, weighing 0.48 grams, perfectly suited for this creepy, Halloween season.

Estimate: $400 - up.
