    Description

    Fante (Ghana)
    (A)Child Figure
    Wood, fiber, beads, cowry shell
    Height: 8 ¾ inches Width: 2 3/16 inches

Analogous to the figure above, but with the body divided into three parts, the center one of which is of lesser diameter than the conical one below. Above the higher, breasted body cylinder is a ringed neck, then a rectangular head with an open, strap-like schematic hairdress. Use was similar to that of the previous example. There is minor chipping at the base.

Bono/Brong (a northern Akan group, Ghana)
    (B)Child Figure
    Wood, fiber, beads, metal
    Height: 9 5/16 inches Width: 2 ¼ inches

Similar to the previous example, but the face is more highly decorated, and the facial features partly worn away. There is a large crack running from the right center of face, down the neck and shifting at the body to the right side all the way to the base. The top and right punch hole for ornaments have split through to the edge.

Provenance: H. Bruce Greene II and family, Naples, Florida
