    A Sixty-Piece Henning Koppel Caravelle Pattern Silver Flatware Service for Georg Jensen, Copenhagen, designed 1957
    9-5/8 inches (24.4 cm) (longest, dinner knife)
    75.74 troy ounces (weighable)

    The lot comprises:
    12 modern long handle dinner knives;
    12 dinner forks;
    12 fish forks;
    12 large youth teaspoons;
    12 butter spreaders.
    60 total

    Hennig Koppel infuses his flatware design with the same sculptural qualities and sense of mass and value as his hollowware. The simple forms with sweeping lines and smooth surfaces, as well as the unexpected consideration of the bowl, tines, and blade, draw in the viewer. Note how the soup bowl is turned on its axis, giving a new perspective. Not as readily evident is the weight of each piece, further indicating quality. Koppel experimented briefly with a thinner handle, which was quickly turned down as it was bland and not as pleasing to hold.

    Condition Report*: Surface scratches and errant pitting, soiling to dinner knife stainless blades, wear commensurate with age, polishing and use.
