    A Russian Gilt Bronze and Lapis Lazuli Perfume Burner

    Unknown maker, possibly St. Petersburg, Russia
    Late Nineteenth Century
    Gilt bronze, lapis lazuli and marble
    Unmarked
    26 in. high x 10 in. diameter

    The rounded and lobed vessel with shield form reserves and roundels fitted with panels of lapis lazuli, having a pierced openwork cover surmounted by a stylized finial with bezel-set lapis lazuli discs; all supported upon three gilt bronze Bacchus figures raising standards and terminating in cloven hooves; the whole raised upon a tri-lateral form carved white marble socle with giilt bronze filets and elongated cartouche panels framing lapis lazuli insets.
