    The pair of wine coolers in the form of volute kraters, one cast with a frieze of Ariadne and Dionysus in a chariot pulled by four horses and to reverse Dionysus presenting Ariadne to Zeus above satyr masks linked by grapevines, the other cast with a frieze showing Demeter in a chariot pulled by two serpents with worshipers before her and servants following bearing baskets of fruits and wheat above horned and bearded masks linked by swags of wheat, square base with gadrooned domed foot with chased detail to ribbed ring to body, split volute handles of laurel and disks rising from swan's heads terminating in rosette, elongated egg and dart motif at neck to beaded rim with egg and dart band, detachable liner and rim, rim engraved with earl's coronet over double headed eagle on wreath.

    An identical pair is in the Jerome and Rita Gans Collection, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts while another pair retaining their gilding was formerly in the Nelson A. Rockefeller Collection, sold Sotheby's New York, April 16, 2005, lot 240.
