PROPERTY FROM THE COLLECTION OF A SOUTHERN GENTLEMAN


The loving cup, with flared, scalloped lip, over a vasiform body with pronounced shoulder and wide, lobed foot, the body covered with hand-hammer marks and the shoulders and feet adorned with delicate hand-chased floral and vegetal motifs, three large handles applied to the body with leaf-form joints to the bottom, and the interior gilt washed.

Production of the loving cup began on May 12, 1920, requiring 100 hours of production time carried out by John M. Sorum, with an additional 94.5 hours of chasing. The final price was $615.

Condition Report*: Overall good condition and excellent presentation, with period monogram previously removed evidenced by previous sale records, scattered dimples and nicks to the handles, general fine surface scratches indicative of light use and polishing, dulling, toning, and rubbing to gilt washed interior, and other wear commensurate with age.
