    Description

    A CONTINENTAL SILVER PLATED FIGURAL CENTERPIECE
    attributed to Christofle, Paris, France, circa 1890
    Marks: unmarked
    28-1/4 x 35-1/2 x 26-3/4 inches (71.8 x 90.2 x 67.9 cm)

    The monumental figural centerpiece with undulating shaped diamond form base enclosing four shell for reservoirs, the edges with cast and applied floral and leaf decoration with gilt highlights, raised on four scrolled shell feet, the ends with cast seated robed female figures, one holding a laurel wreath the other a laurel branch, the sides with cast recumbent robed female figures holding a branch in an outstretched hand, each end with a twisting branch form upright terminating in removable pan, the cast center with dolphin, leaf, cartouche and rock work base supporting intertwined male and female figures wrapped around naturalistic tree trunk base with outcropping leafed branches, supporting large removable pan.
