PRIVATE WEST COAST COLLECTION
Microscope, Monocular, "Spencer Microscope ALOE CO. Sales Agents NO. 84805". Photomicrographic lacquered body tube, triple nose piece, large fixed rectangular stage with clips, plano/concave mirror, swing out substage, focusing non-centering condenser with iris diaphragm and filter slot. Lacquered rack with side mounted fine and coarse focusing milled heads. Black enameled rectangular limb and horse shoe foot. 6X and 10X oculars, objectives: "Spencer Buffalo U.S.A. 4 MM N.A. 0.66 44X 217364", "Spencer Buffalo U.S.A. 16 MM N.A. 0.25 10X 230498", "Spencer Buffalo U.S.A. HOM. IMM. 1.8 mm N.A. .125 231667 95X". All objectives in black enameled brass canisters signed, "SPENCER OBJECTIVE 4, 16 or 1.8 MM ALOE CO. SALES AGENTS". Fitted mahogany case with key in refinished excellent condition. Reithmeir's Serial Number List, dates it to ca. 1925. Beeks' List of Spencer ser. nos. dates it 1923-1925. Eimer & Amend Catalog for 1920 shows what is probably the predecessor, Model 44H (not photomicrographic). Spencer Lens Co. Catalog for 1924 shows a model, No. 18, the only stand with a rectangular limb, identical to subject stand but with a focusing substage on a rack and pinion.
Condition Report*:
Minor wear to lacquering,minor patination spotting, some lenses appear to be missing, case refinshed and includes key, with wear commensurate with age and use.
